BCD Travel is recommending that its corporate travel clients begin planning now for business travel within a month of the Olympics, which begins on July 27 and runs through to August 12 next year.

The corporate travel agency says two thirds of the city’s room stock has already been taken and visitors are expected to arrive as early as mid-June for the event.

In addition, the British government is launching a new advertising campaign to promote London as a great place to visit for holidays and meetings, incentives, conferences and events, which will no doubt add to demand.

With its fresh approach to business travel, BCD Travel has told its clients to begin communicating with their preferred hotel partners in London now, as many chains have promised to keep some rooms available at normal corporate rates. Other chains have imposed black out dates and raised their prices to take advantage of the demand.

As an alternative, BCD Travel recommends considering extended-stay properties, as these suppliers will be anxious to convert business won during the Games into long-term commercial relationships. Also consider locations within an hour of London by train, such as  Reading, Oxford, Cambridge or Birmingham.
